Laser Skin Resurfacing Can Smooth and Refine Troubled Skin
If you feel self-conscious about your skin and are frustrated with cosmetic issues like discoloration, fine lines, wrinkles, or acne scarring, laser skin resurfacing can restore your skin's glow, tone, and texture. Unlike other treatments that slough off the top layers of your skin, such as microdermabrasion, laser skin resurfacing treatments at our Fullerton practice can actually stimulate the production of the body's own collagen. The result is a softer, more even complexion. Learn more about how laser skin resurfacing can help rejuvenate your youthful beauty. Schedule a consultation with Dr. William Baugh today.
The Laser Skin Resurfacing Procedure
If Dr. Baugh decides the laser skin skin resurfacing procedure is a good option to address your concerns, he will first apply a local anesthetic to reduce any discomfort. He will carefully map out your target areas, which commonly include the face, neck, chest, or hands. Next, Dr. Baugh will gently vaporize the damaged skin tissue using an erbium laser, a technique which utilizes cool light technology and results in less redness and swelling than other lasers.
After treatment is complete, you will need to apply a gentle, hypoallergenic moisturizer and sunblock to the treated areas for seven to 10 days as your skin heals. Fresh, pink skin will continue to heal over the course of several weeks, and once healing is complete, you can expect to see smoother, softer skin with a more even tone. Many of our patients choose to combine the procedure with other services, like BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, to further enhance their aesthetic results.
Enhance Your Beauty
The most pronounced benefit of laser resurfacing is its ability to stimulate your body’s natural collage production. Collagen is a vital component of the connective tissue that rests beneath your skin. It provides the plump appearance in youthful, healthy skin. As you age, collagen breaks down, resulting in wrinkles and tired-looking skin. When collagen rebuilds, your skin appears more taut, creating a rejuvenated appearance. Laser skin resurfacing offers a number of additional benefits including:
- Fuller skin without the use of injectables or dermal fillers
- Safe for use on areas other than the face
- Removes superficial to moderate wrinkles
- Erbium’s laser technology minimizes bruising and swelling
- Typically an outpatient procedure
When compared with other laser treatments, such as CO2 laser resurfacing, erbium laser skin resurfacing typically has a better success rate with deeper-toned complexions. Erbium lasers also produce less post-operative irritation, including redness and swelling, than other lasers. After about a week, you will be able to wear makeup to easily conceal any remaining discoloration.

Laser skin resurfacing may be recommended as a suitable alternative to other dermatological treatments that may not work for you. For example, if your skin is too sensitive for chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing offers an effective alternative.
