Address Sun Damage and Create a More Even Skin Tone with the Photorejuvenation Facial By William P. Baugh on July 02, 2014

Female with clear, smooth, even skinThe skin on the face and neck is prone to damage because it is continually exposed to the sun and other environmental elements. Unfortunately, this skin is what is most visible to others, so when damage is present, it can greatly affect the perception others have about a person’s age and even their personality. Aging, damaged skin can make people appear haggard and unfriendly. At our cosmetic dermatology practice, we offer a range of skin treatments that can reverse damage and give skin a more healthy, youthful glow. For our Fullerton patients, the photorejuvenation facial can treat skin damage, even skin tone, and stimulate collagen production, all of which can create a younger, fresher appearance for the skin on the face and neck.

Candidates

The photorejuvenation facial is a safe and non-invasive procedure, so it is a treatment that is appropriate for just about any patient. This facial is aimed at eliminating skin flaws and improving overall tone and suppleness, so ideal candidates are those with the following concerns:

  • Brown age spots
  • Prominent blood vessels
  • Acne or acne scars
  • Rosacea
  • Fine lines or wrinkles
  • Minimal sagging or loose skin

Patients with any of the above conditions who are looking for non-surgical treatment that can significantly improve the appearance of the skin are good candidates for a photorejuvenation facial. Although this procedure is typically performed on the face, the neck and hands can also be treated.

The Procedure

Many patients are happy to know that the photrejuvenation facial is safe, fast, and pain-free. Using the Gemini™ Laser, which can be adjusted to the unique needs of each patient, light is emitted over the patient’s skin. This light can break up pigmentation in age spots, remove superficial blood vessels, reveal fresher skin, and stimulate collagen production. This procedure is non-invasive and considered completely pain-free by the majority of patients. As the laser passes over the skin, many patients report feeling little more than a light snapping sensation. Following treatment, patients will notice a subtle and gradual improvement in the tone and suppleness of the skin.

What Can I Expect After Treatment?

There is no downtime required following a photorejuvenation facial. Although patients are free to return to any regular activities, slight side effects may be present. Any brown spots that were treated may temporarily appear darker in color. Similarly, visible blood vessels may appear darker and will probably look like small scratches. It is also normal for the skin to look red and slightly swollen. These side effects should dissipate on their own within just a day or two after treatment. However, it is likely to take up to two weeks for the final results of the facial to become apparent. Within the two weeks following treatment, spots will gradually fade and the skin will appear smoother and suppler as collagen is produced.
