Dermal Fillers for the Temples By William P. Baugh on April 30, 2019

A woman smiling with her eyes closedWrinkles and lines can leave us looking much older than we are. We don’t need to accept it, however. Thanks to advanced skin care and anti-aging treatments, Dr. William Baugh can reduce the prominence of wrinkles and help you look much younger. The use of anti-aging facial injections such as dermal fillers and BOTOX® Cosmetic can work wonders for many patients.

The team at our Fullerton, CA facial rejuvenation center would like to consider a usually neglected problems area of the face: the temples. We can determine the ideal approach to treating your temples during a visit to Full Spectrum Dermatology.

The Loss of Volume Around the Temples

As we age, its common for use to lose some amount of facial fullness. The baby fat of our twenties goes away, causing the face to become more angular and defined. In some cases, the loss of volume in the face causes a person to appear too thin, emaciated, or prematurely old.

When it comes to the temples, the hollowing out of the temples around the eyes can make a person’s face seem more skeletal than it should be. All this from just a few centimeters of reduced volume. That’s when our Fullerton skin care center can help thanks to the use of one or more of the following dermal fillers.

JUVÉDERM™

JUVÉDERM is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler. Commonly used for lip lines, smile lines, and marionette lines, JUVÉDERM can also help fill in hollowed out portions of the temples and upper face. Doing so will help you look years longer. The results of JUVÉDERM injections typically last around several months to a year.

Perlane®

Perlane is another type of hyaluronic acid-based filler. It is also used to treat those problematic lines around the mouth and nose, and has been effective from treating loss of volume around the temples as well. Like JUVÉDERM, the results of Perlane injection treatment will last several months to one year.

Sculptra®

Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) injectable filler. Unlike the hyaluronic acid-based fillers that we’ve noted above, Sculptra helps promote the body’s production of collagen in order to boost volume in the injection site. It’s been used to treat deep lines, creases, and folds, as well as severe facial fat loss (lipoatrophy), particularly among people with HIV/AIDS. The results of Sculptra can last anywhere up to two years.

Radiesse®

Radiesse uses calcium-based microspheres as part of their solution rather than the other substances noted above. Like Sculptra, the microspheres in Radiesse help promote the body’s own production of new collagen to help add volume to the injection site. Radiesse is used to add volume to the lines and wrinkles of the face, the backs of the hands, and can be used on the temples as well. Radiesse results last around 18 months.

Combining Multiple Fillers

For some patients, combining one or two fillers may be recommended for optimal results. During the consultation process here at our Fullerton skin care center, we can discuss the potential of multiple fillers being used, and cover all of the advantages and disadvantages of your various treatment options.
