Laser Skin Resurfacing

You might feel self-conscious about skin problems like blemishes, discoloration, fine lines, wrinkles, or scarring.

Laser skin resurfacing can take care of these cosmetic issues by restoring your skin's glow, tone, and texture.

Find out why so many choose Dr. William Baugh at Full Spectrum Dermatology in Fullerton, CA, for laser skin resurfacing.

Collagen Production

The most pronounced benefit of laser resurfacing is its ability to stimulate your body’s natural collagen production. Collagen is a vital component of the connective tissue that rests beneath your skin.

As you age, collagen breaks down, resulting in wrinkles and tired-looking skin. When collagen rebuilds, your skin appears tighter, more rejuvenated, and healthy.

...I went in to have a second opinion with Dr Baugh after my sons regular doctor told him that if he had a mole removed from his face it would be cosmetic procedure, and that there was nothing unusual. Dr Baugh did think it looked suspicious and took a biopsy of it which turned out to be precancerous...He has gone above and beyond for my family, and I would highly recommend him.

Preparing for Laser Treatment Two Simple Stages

a patient receives a skin treatment

In-Office Preparation

At our Fullerton office, Dr. Baugh will review your medical history. Be prepared to tell him about your medical conditions, medications, previous cosmetic procedures, and how your skin reacts to the sun. Then, Dr. Baugh will inspect your skin to determine which improvements can be made and how best to work with your facial features. Finally, be sure to discuss your expectations and desires so our team can work toward your goals.

Personal Preparation

Depending on your medical history, you may be prescribed medications or given special skincare instructions for best results. You should follow all instructions given to you by Dr. Baugh regarding acceptable sun exposure. If you smoke, you should stop for at least two weeks prior to laser resurfacing. This can help minimize your risk of complications and promote better healing.

Laser Resurfacing Steps

Rejuvenate your skin without resorting to surgery.
Rejuvenate your skin without resorting to surgery.

Calming

Dr. Baugh first applies a local anesthetic to reduce any discomfort.

Cleansing

Excess bacteria, dirt, and oil are removed from your skin with gentle cleansing techniques.

Mapping

Dr. Baugh carefully maps out your target areas, which commonly include the face, neck, chest, or hands.

Lasering

Dr. Baugh gently removes the outermost layer of damaged skin tissue with the Opus laser, which minimizes redness and swelling compared to other lasers.

Wrapping

Your skin is wrapped or bandaged to protect it immediately following treatment.

Our Real Patient Shares Her Experience WITH TREATMENT USING THE OPUS LASER

Our patient discusses her experience receiving laser skin resurfacing for the treatment of fine lines and uneven texture. Dr. Baugh outlines how this treatment works and the additional benefits it offers.

Aftercare

There are some simple instructions Dr. Baugh will advise you to follow for about seven to 10 days after treatment is complete. To take care of your new skin and promote healing, your instructions may include:

  • Use a gentle, hypoallergenic moisturizer and skin products
  • Wear sunblock on the treated areas and avoid prolonged sun exposure
  • Use ice packs and pain medication to minimize discomfort and swelling
  • Avoid potential irritants such as certain cosmetics and public pools

Fresh, pink skin will continue to heal over the course of several weeks, and once healing is complete, you can expect to see smoother, softer skin with a more even tone. Though it's often not necessary, many of our patients choose to combine the procedure with other services, like BOTOX® Cosmetic injections or dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM®, to further enhance their aesthetic results.

What We Look For in a Candidate

Dr. Baugh's primary concern is your safety. If he believes this treatment isn't right for you, we will help you explore other solutions. Some factors that may cause Dr. Baugh to recommend treatment other than laser skin resurfacing include:

Previous Procedures

A history of laser resurfacing, radiation therapy, or the use of the acne medication Amnesteem may interfere with candidacy.

Certain Conditions

Connective tissue problems, autoimmune disease, and an outward-turning eyelid are key conditions Dr. Baugh will screen you for.

Skin Situations

Keloid scars, cold sores, and fever blisters may make you a better candidate for a different treatment plan.

If any of these conditions apply to you, Dr. Baugh may recommend another cosmetic procedure to better fit your needs.
